A Tree of Memories: Honoring Loved Ones While Helping Local Families

For more than 25 years, a special Christmas tree has stood as a symbol of love, remembrance and community in the Sandy area.

Each December, Mt. Hood Hospice’s Memorial Tree becomes a place where community members can honor someone special. No connection to hospice is required to be included on the tree; anyone is welcome to participate.

For a suggested donation of $15, Mt. Hood Hospice will place an ornament on the tree bearing the name of your loved one. Each ornament represents a life, a memory, and a story that matters.

For the second year, the Memorial Tree will be displayed at the Mt. Hood Hospice office in Sandy, rather than at Clackamas County Bank, where the tradition was previously hosted. The tree will be on display throughout the month of December, giving everyone an opportunity to stop by, see the names of loved ones and spend time in a beautiful, quiet space.

But the Memorial Tree is about more than remembering. It is also about caring for the families in our community who need hospice.

Donations to the Memorial Tree help support Mt. Hood Hospice’s Community Fund, which makes it possible for our team to care for patients regardless of their ability to pay. Families receiving care from Mt. Hood Hospice never receive a bill for hospice services.

That is what makes this tradition so meaningful: your remembrance can help another family receive the top-quality care and support they need.

Throughout December, the tree will fill with ornaments and names — creating a beautiful reminder that while our loved ones may no longer be beside us, their memory continues to touch the lives of others.

For some, placing a name on the tree is a quiet tribute. For others, it is a way to celebrate a life, mark a first holiday without someone special, or simply say, “You are remembered.”

We invite you to add a name, share a memory and help make sure that compassionate hospice care remains available to every family in our community.
