Hoodland CPO

Most of you know that the mission of the Hoodland Community Planning Organization (HCPO) is to bring County information to our Hoodland community members. Our goal is to provide a resounding voice back to the County. We also provide speaking opportunities of interest to the community.

The next Hoodland Community Planning Organization Community Meeting will be held September 17, at 7:00 PM at the Mt Hood Oregon Resort.  There will be no meeting in August.

We were glad to see the Short-Term Rental decision-making process finalized with a unanimous yes vote and a request by the Board of County Commissioners directing staff to go about writing the revised regulations and hiring new staff.  This is a good first step.  In future years, as the program develops, we can look forward to changes made to meet the reality of the program.   We are eager to see that there will be a fair and equitable plan. The Hoodland CPO will do what we can to support the community and their concerns. One Board Member will focus the STR Committee on monitoring this program.

Members of the CPO and the Mt Hood Corridor Wildfire Partnership are giving our endorsement and assistance to an effort by Hoodland Fire Board Member Terry Niedermeyer to work on legislation that will assure 72 hours of cell phone service to areas like ours in the rural and wildland urban interface. We will be back with more news as that effort progresses.

Recently, Marti Bowne presented information about the HECN and GMRS radios to the Ladd Hill Neighbors CPO near Wilsonville.  That CPO is eager to begin a network of their own, with a repeater high on a hilltop.  We look forward to hearing about their progress. Marti also presented HECN to folks at the Senior Center at Mt Hood Village.  The questions were lively and several people have decided to join HECN to keep in communication during emergencies.

The Coffee and Radios monthly event is coming together happily.  Folks new to handheld radio communication and some of the Hoodland Emergency Radio Network (HECN) members.  HECN will be meeting on the second Saturday at the Coffee House 26 in Welches from 9-10 to answer GMRS Radio questions.  No radio is required to attend.  The coffee and breakfast sandwiches are delicious.
