PGE Project Follow Up

We’d like to share some follow-up information with your readers about the PGE project happening around Government Camp over the summer:

PGE is wrapping up the first construction season of its Summit-Summit13 - Mount Hood Undergrounding Project at the end of October, having placed approximately 4 miles of overhead power lines underground along US Highway 26 near Government Camp and on Mount Hood. This is part of PGE’s proactive, targeted work to help prevent wildfires. The project will also strengthen the system serving homes and businesses in the Government Camp area to reduce the frequency and length of power outages.

Construction began in May. Digging conditions and wildfire evacuations over the summer delayed the project, so extra crews are at work through October. Work on the project will pause over the winter and resume in summer 2027 when weather and ground conditions allow construction to continue.

A significant portion of next year’s work will be done on the mountain between Government Camp and Timberline Lodge and will affect several popular hiking and mountain biking trails. PGE will provide more information about the work and anticipated impacts in the months before the work begins.  Updates will also be posted on portlandgeneral.com/projects.
