By Hoodland Women’s Club, For The Mountain Times

Our mission is to support the entire Hoodland community by providing assistance to individuals and families through community projects and fundraising efforts. The Hoodland area spans from Government Camp to Alder Creek, and while our scholarships are primarily for students within these boundaries, we also consider exceptional applicants who have strong ties to the community.

Our largest fundraiser each year is our annual golf tournament and auction. Thanks to the success of that event – and the generosity of our community – we’re proud to increase this year’s scholarship awards from $2,500 to $3,000.

This was a particular competitive year, with 16 outstanding applications – the most we’ve ever received. After careful individual review and thoughtful group discussion, we selected four recipients, including two exceptional students who live just outside our boundaries.

We truly wish we could recognize all 16 applications – each one is deserving.

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

  • Ellie Garmon, attending Western Oregon University, to pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science.
  • Ezra French, attending Western Oregon University, majoring in Education.
  • Scarlett French, attending Oregon State University Honors College, to pursue degrees in entomology and vocal performance.
  • Ximena Sofia Ruiz Marron, attending Western State University, to pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science.

A big thank you to our community for your continued support of our golf tournament, which enables us to provide these scholarships. Your contributions make a significant difference in the lives of our local students.

In addition to the high school scholarships, we are also offering between a $500 and $3,000 professional development scholarship for adults living within the Hoodland community boundaries. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is August 31, 2026.
