Hoodland Women’s Club increased giving to the community by more than 70 percent last budget year, with a total of $38,498 in scholarships, financial assistance to individuals and families, and to local service organizations like Meals on Wheels, Welches School, the Hoodland Library, and Hoodland Senior Center.
“It’s been a great year for our giving,” said HWC President Nichole Watts “and we are so grateful to all the donors and volunteers that have made our growing level of service to our community possible.”
Watts said that fundraising events such as the inaugural Harvest of Hope, the golf tournament, Spring Fling, and flower basket sale have been successes, and grants, personal bequests, and business sponsorship has been robust. And HWC has doubled down on stretching the proceeds, creating a continually growing fund that the club is reinvesting in Hoodland residents and services.
With over 4,000 volunteer hours last year, HWC not only sponsored fundraising events and community giving, but also offered reduced-cost mobile vet clinics, first aid training, and road clean-up.
The Community Giving Fund, one of the club’s biggest endeavors, gave $11,598 last year to 17 families, providing help with rent assistance, utility bills, emergency expenses, and other financial support.
“I want your group to know how helpful it was to get my rent paid for last month,” one community member told us. “It took an amazing amount of pressure off of me and enabled me to embrace my path to deeper healing.
“You believed in me and that meant the world to me. Thank you!”
“Over the past few months,” said another, “unexpected hardships have made it difficult for us to stay on our feet – from a fallen tree damaging our RV to a car accident that left us without reliable transportation. We’ve faced financial strain and urgent repairs, but through it all, we’ve seen the power of this community’s generosity. Your help not only eases our burden but reminds us that brighter days are ahead. We truly appreciate your kindness and look forward to the day we can pay it forward.”
Respondents were pleased with how fast their applications for assistance went through. If you’d like help or know someone who’d like help, you can find the information on how to apply for assistance from the HWC Community Fund on the website at www.hoodlandwomensclub.org
New date for the Harvest of Hope!
Nov. 14 is the new date for the Harvest of Hope at Alpine Events. Still the same great gala, with live DJ, auction, and an evening of elegance, entertainment, and giving to our community. All of the proceeds from the Harvest of Hope will go towards HWC’s Community Fund.
“It seemed there were many events happening in September,” Watts explained about the change from the previous date of Sept. 26,“and we wanted to give everyone a chance to participate.”
