Community is what drives every issue of The Mountain Times. We love our corner of the Pacific Northwest and we’re proud to serve the special people who call it home. It was an extraordinary reward, then, for the core Mountain Times team to spend a few days in July bouncing around Mt. Hood hotspots to meet and greet the wonderful folks who drive the paper.
July 9th and 10th, several members of the Mountain Times team visited several notable Mt. Hood locations to speak with mountain locals and say a heartfelt “thank you” for their continued support. We sampled the delicious breakfast made by the Whistle Stop. We learned about local history at the 1937 Steiner Log Church. We got insight into the work being done at Klobas O’Neil Roofing. And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
The main event took place at the Mt. Hood Resort’s Foliage room, where dozens of people gathered to discuss the trajectory of The Mountain Times. Set against the backdrop of our verdant rainforest gazing in through the Foliage Room’s floor-to-ceiling windows, people enjoyed light refreshments and got to know the people who write and lay out the Mountain Times.
Publisher Matt Nelson was on hand to hear feedback and talk to interested people. He found himself on his feet throughout the event, moving from person to person to listen to their insight into The Mountain Times.
He was joined by the majority of the staff of writers, editors, and organizers. The whole team was bowled over by the reaction to the recent changes and enhancements the publication has undergone. Over the last two years, we’ve been thrilled to deliver full-color editions of the paper as well as a renewed focus on hyper-local stories that inform without agenda. We just want to shine a light on the wonderful people who lay claim to Mt. Hood.
At the end of the open house, Matt treated the team to a delicious dinner at Chicali Cantina, where the owner, Robin, made sure that our team was well treated.
Over the coming months and years, we cannot wait to continue our mission to serve and represent our readers. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put in to come and speak with us; we can’t wait to broaden and deepen our relationship!
Thank you so much!
