Friends and Family Say Goodbye to Adolph Stocker

By MT StaffThe Mountain Times

It is with sadness that we said goodbye to Adolph Stocker on 7/11/25 at the age of 96.  He passed away peacefully in hospice at the Mt. Hood Medical Center.

Adolph was born in Bauma, Switzerland, a small town near Zurich, in a family of 12.  He began his livelihood as a house painter, but also went to art school in painting, which became one of his life-long hobbies.  His artwork adorns the walls of the Hoodland Senior Center as well of those of many friends of his.

His house painting took him to Sweden for awhile, then back to Switzerland.  In 1969, at the age of 38, he made the courageous move to emigrate to the US, working as a house painter in New Jersey.

After two years he followed a lead and moved to Oregon, where he embraced the beauty of the PNW.  He worked as a ski instructor, lift operator, and in maintenance at local ski resorts, sharing his love for skiing with others. Later, he worked as a bartender at the Red Carpet Room in Portland, where his sociable nature and infectious smile made him a beloved figure in the community.

Adolph was known for his unwavering positivity and kindness. He had a unique ability to uplift those around him, always greeting others with a smile and a warm word. His home was a reflection of his vibrant spirit, featuring beautiful landscaping and a cherished Koi pond that he tended to with great devotion.  His passions included good food, especially chocolate, and appreciated his favorite dishes made by those close to him.

He is survived by his 101 year-old sister, Elizabeth, in Switzerland and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

His love of life, his spirit of joy and positivity will continue to inspire all who knew him.  Rest in peace, dear friend. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
