Golf Tourney

On Saturday, September 6th, the Mt. Hood Oregon Resort put on the 2nd Annual Welches Charity Open Golf Tournament with the proceeds split evenly between the Mt. Hood Lions community disaster relief fund and the Hoodland Senior Center. The weather was perfect. The event was extremely well attended with 20 foursomes participating and we raised $13,000. Our thanks to Porchlight Realty and Philip Carman for their major sponsorship, to Mt. Hood Meadows, The Door Works Company of Portland, Rendezvous Grill, The Whistle Stop Bar & Grill, Smoke on the Mountain, Clackamas County Bank, Welches Mountain Building Supply, Gresham Breakfast Lions Club, Paula Silverly and Yvonne Bitaglia for their generous donations, to US Foods, Skyway Bar & Grill, Pub 26 and Custom Stone Creations for food and drink donations to Mt. Hood Meadows,

Also thanks to the Oregon Resort at the Mountain, Coopers Wine Bar, Whistle Stop Bar & Grill, Charlie’s, Mountain View, Brightwood Tavern, Skyway Bar & Grill, Zig Zag Inn, Hillcrest Ski & Sport, Coffee House 26, Mt. Hood Cannabis, and Welches Liquor Store for their beautiful gift baskets and prizes. Most importantly our gratitude to Elizabeth Kwon, President and CEO of Mt. Hood Oregon Resort, and to Joe Larsen and the hardworking, talented staff of the Mt. Hood Oregon Resort for putting on this amazing event to benefit our community!  Thanks to all the golfers in our community and the greater Portland area for your support and participation. We look forward to an even bigger and better event next year.

Remembering Lion Judith Norval

Lion Judith Norval passed away in early September in her home. Judith will be remembered as someone who had a lot of common sense. She was a very caring woman, with a lot of knowledge, she will be missed by all who knew her. Lion Judith served two years as a director on our clubs board 2018/2019 and 2019/2020.

A visit with Lion Fred Thornberg

Our Club President Lion Dave Anderson and I made a visit to Lion Fred Thornberg on Saturday September 13th. Lion Fred celebrated his 100th birthday on Monday September 15th. Fred is a remarkable man in very good health. Fred is a Life Member of our club, one of six members to be honored with our club's highest form of recognition. Fred is also our club's longest serving member ever, with 55 years of service as a Mt. Hood Lion. Fred asked that we tell all of his friends here on the mountain hello, and that he wishes them all the best.

Lions Bingo began on Friday, September 26th. We had a great turnout for our first night of this year's season. Bingo is our largest fundraiser and helps to support our scholarship program and much more. Come and have a great Friday night, doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with Bingo starting at 7:00 p.m. Our Bingo Chairwoman is Lion Carol Norgard.

Our Club has a busy October coming up!

Come by our parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 p. m. (or until all plants are sold) on Saturday, October 4th. Depending on the weather, stop by for hot coffee or cocoa. Also present: advice from local plant experts on how to make sure your purchase thrives next spring.

We are also hoping to have tickets available for our 50/50 Raffle. This Raffle will go on throughout the year until our Mexican Dinner in May when the drawings will take place.
