At Mt. Hood Hospice, the staff and volunteers understand that grief is not linear. No matter when you lose someone, there is no timeline on when or how you should process that loss.
As such, the nonprofit hospice organization provides Time of Remembering events twice a year – once in person and once virtually – to provide people with a supportive and intentional place to honor the loved ones they’re missing.
The next Time of Remembering event will be in person in Meinig Memorial Park, 17670 Meinig Ave., Sandy, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28.
The event will feature photos of passed loved ones (submitted by community members) displayed along the pathways of the park, and Mt. Hood Hospice staff and volunteers will be available during the event to speak with attendees. The Sandy River Threshold Singers, the Portland Threshold Singers, and local songstress Heather Michet will provide a tranquil musical backdrop for the event, and a volunteer will also be offering soundbaths.
“TOR offers a supportive space for people to publicly remember loved ones who have died alongside others who are missing people,” Director of Bereavement Services Laura Lirette said. “It normalizes that grief, and missing those who have died is part of the human experience (and) creates a grief-positive space for people to grieve in community that can be difficult to find in daily life.”
One need not have had a loved one receive care from Mt. Hood Hospice to attend this event or any of the organization’s multiple support groups and programs, which are all free of charge.
