Welches Middle School Students Raise Funds for Senior Medical Transportation

By Brittany Kintigh For The Mountain Times

Early in May, the Welches Middle School Leadership Class teamed up with the Hoodland Senior Center (HSC) for a special event — the first-ever Mother’s Day Car Wash and Flower Basket Raffle! It was a fun and sunny day full of teamwork, soapy sponges, and helping hands.

The event raised money for the Senior Center’s medical transportation program. This program helps local seniors get to their doctor appointments safely. Thanks to the hard work of the students and other volunteers, over $800 was raised!

The Leadership students gave up part of their weekend to make a big difference. They worked together, washing and vacuuming cars with big smiles and great attitudes. In total, they cleaned 36 cars! In all, kids and adults gave 94 volunteer hours. Whether scrubbing tires, rinsing off soap, or selling raffle tickets for beautiful flower baskets, everyone pitched in to help.

The Welches Middle School Leadership Class showed they care about their community. They were role models by encouraging each other, stepping up when needed, and showing kindness to everyone who stopped by.

The Hoodland Senior Center is thankful for the support and is looking forward to fun events coming up in June! Seniors can join a trip to the Silverton Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 15th, and/or enjoy breakfast at McCrae’s Country Cafe followed by a visit to the Japanese Garden in Gresham on Friday, June 27th. Call to save a seat on the HSC bus for either or both events at (503) 622-3331.

Thank you to everyone who came to get their car washed, bought a raffle ticket, or helped out. And a big cheer for the amazing students who made it all possible!
